Summer Fun List

A whole month without a post. How did that happen? I’ve missed you, missed this space where we’ve connected about preemies, NICU Life, rookie parent stunts, butter cream and other random subjects I’ve covered with my grammatical inventions. My excuse is good. We’ve been filling up our days and nights marking stuff off our Summer Fun List. I made it as soon as we ripped the last day off the isolation calendar. Remember isolation? This year was rough, yo. Last summer, we were still pretty cautious about public outings and didn’t try to cram too much into our summer because honestly, we didn’t know if Tucker could handle it. He hadn’t been around more than 3 people at a time, ever. Socially, we didn’t want to overload or over stimulate him.

But not this summer. We’ve been out and ABOUT, y’all.

I wrote about coming out of the bubble, and the weirdness I felt about beginning to shed the preemie label as we ventured towards a different reality. Friends, it has been quite spectacular. This kid loves everything about the new world. Every outing has been thrilling for him. The grocery store. The mall. A zoo. Farmer’s Market. The car wash. Unlike many  2 year olds, Tucker is experiencing these things for the very first time. And he’s adorably verbal about his observations of what lies outside the bubble. He provided commentary (loudly) during his first grocery store visit. “There’s cupcakes! There’s tomatoes! Look at those apples! I see muffins!” I don’t think he could’ve been any more excited to see that much food in one place than if we were at Disneyworld. And while he’s just a little shy when he first meets new people, he warms up quickly and is surprisingly very social to have been so isolated.

There are still check marks to come for the Summer Fun List, but we’ve knocked out quite a few. I was going to post the pictures below for you to view. But let’s face it. This mama is snap happy and there are way too many to make you scroll through. Who has the time? What, with all the fun you’re having this summer too. So I did the next best thing. I made a video montage 🙂 I crammed it into 3 minutes. And the tune is catchy-enjoy. Hope your summer is full of fun stuff and ice cream. If you have a preemie and are facing upcoming isolation, well-I got nothin’. No good words to give you. You’ve got a couple months yet, so just don’t think about it?

Happy Summer friends.  Tucker’s Summer Fun List Video-CLICK ME!

Who Is This Rookie?

I don't trust people who don't like sweets. Monica Gellar is my spirit animal. I work. I write. I mom. I pray. I wife. I eat. I go. First kid was born at 24 weeks and spent 151 days in the NICU-well that didn't go as planned. He fought and we cheered. I started writing during that time. Second kid was born on a Thursday night-her birthmom's hand in mine both of us crying happy tears. You'll find posts here about cheesecake, adoption, kindergarten shenanigans, hard stuff, Dolly Parton and whatever else I want. And you'll like it young lady. Thanks for reading. I always love adding to the team. Especially if you bring team snacks.
