I'm coming up on a few days of work travel and my first time away from Tucker since he was born (sniff) so I took a day off this week to have some one on one time with our thinks-he's-a-big-shot-now 1 year old. I had the list ready for all that I would accomplish during his nap. A little work. A run on the treadmill (the 1/2 marathon training could be described as dismal). And if he took an extra long nap I would be able to (gasp) read my US Weekly. Maybe even last week's. Double gasp. Here's ... View the Post
The Very Hungry (sometimes angry) Caterpillar
"The mightiest oak began as a tough little nut that just held it's ground." Our tough little nut turned 1 last weekend. We celebrated in the most perfect way Tucker's 365 days. It was. Poignant. Triumphant. Beautiful. For a moment, sad. But mostly perfect. When T was in the NICU we read the Very Hungry Caterpillar book to him nearly every day. It was a story fitting for a preemie. About a very tiny newborn caterpillar who bursts forth on a Sunday morning and is, very...well, hungry. He eats ... View the Post
The day. Why it’s hard. And awesome.
On my birthday every year, my mom calls me-around noon usually, and says, " This was it, 30...(er something) years ago, you arrived! Right at lunchtime! It was the happiest day ever!". My grandmother usually calls too- she recounts her favorite story from that day-the day she forgot her own telephone number because she was so excited that I finally arrived (I was 8 days late). She went to call my grandad-but in her elation, she couldn't remember her home telephone number. I can hear, even after ... View the Post
Farewell Living Room
I swore I'd never do it. I would be different. Nope, I wouldn't let it happen. Yet here I am. Writing this post from what used to be, my semi- stylish, Pottery Barn meets Home Goods living room. Last week I waved goodbye to my cute coffee table. The one I splurged and bought with my first adult pay check. The oh-so-classic arm chair for the sometimes-used "reading nook"? Gone-zo. The doors to our oversized antique armoire, the shelves of which, just last week displayed my awesome TJ Maxx finds ... View the Post
We love you back.
First of all, I was overwhelmed with both personal and public responses to my last post-thank you so much for your comments. I debated on whether to post about this struggle that is so personal. You made me feel less exposed by saying in a lot of different ways-"We feel ya sister." So from one sturdy girl to all you other make-up-less, pony-tailed girls out there-thank you :) So, this week I had fun news to share remember? Welp, as the world of isolation turns, the fun news was postponed ... View the Post
Sturdy Girls Unite!
So remember when I started this blog and I said that sometimes my posts would have little or nothing to do with being a preemie mom. That I reserve the right to compose an entire post on brownies? Well. Here you go. No brownies but something that's been on my mind and I wanted to share. And guys-this one is probably more girl-focused, sorry. But don't stop reading, you might recognize your wife or your mom or your daughter in here somewhere. And if you do-make her get out from behind the ... View the Post
