There’s a suitcase in our study. As I packed it, the reality began to set in that our little family of 3 would be adding a fourth soon. The definition of soon isn’t nearly as calculated as my Type A personality would like. Soon, to me, means the phone rings this week. But the reality of soon in this situation can't be circled on a calendar. The reality is that soon might mean the call comes next month. Or next summer. Maybe even next Christmas. Oi. So we wait. Team Expansion
Before and after Tucker’s complicated birth, we prayerfully and thoughtfully considered all the options for growing our family. Or not. We both felt the decision to expand our team couldn't really be made until we knew the extent to which Tucker’s needs might require 100% of our attention. So we waited, and listened. We talked to doctors and each other about things like odds, statistics and uncertainty. Our road to parenthood was rough the first go round, y’all. And while I've made peace with my ... View the Post
Pumpkin Pancakes Can Fix It
Fall is ringing the doorbell at our house. Bought a mum last weekend (as it gave a sad, knowing look to his friends when I put it in the cart). It's barely hanging on, perched on my front porch, also known as the place where plants go to die. But I love fall, so I'll buy another one today and probably at least one more before Halloween. The last two years fall brought with it the dreaded isolation, but not this fall. We're free. To enjoy fall festivals, go trick or treating, find pumpkins on a ... View the Post
He Sings.
So much about Tucker's future development was unknown when we brought him home from the NICU 2 years ago. The odds for a 24 weeker were not wholly in his favor in that regard. So each milestone kinda feels like Christmas morning. A gift we weren't sure we would open. One for which we are humbly and fully grateful. There are preemie moms and dads waking up every morning hoping this will be the day their kiddo takes a step. That this will be the day they hear his voice. That this will be the day ... I Take It Back
I've seen so many of your posts with pictures of your little ones starting school. Y'all got some ridiculous cute kids. Such a big milestone. We also, coincidentally this week, got the letter in the mail telling us that Tucker was close to aging out of Early Intervention (say what?) and that we'll be getting a visit from the school system to assess where we'll go from here to track his milestones and potential learning plan. After I checked the names on the envelope, realized that they hadn't ... View the Post
Summer Fun List
A whole month without a post. How did that happen? I've missed you, missed this space where we've connected about preemies, NICU Life, rookie parent stunts, butter cream and other random subjects I've covered with my grammatical inventions. My excuse is good. We've been filling up our days and nights marking stuff off our Summer Fun List. I made it as soon as we ripped the last day off the isolation calendar. Remember isolation? This year was rough, yo. Last summer, we were still pretty cautious ... View the Post
