Milestones· Preemie Stuff· RSV and Isolation

Re-entry

A whole month. A whole month out of isolation. And we've taken full advantage of it.  We had (and still have), after all,  a lot of ground to make up. Cousins to meet. Sand to cover our toes. Parks to visit. People to thank. This is also why we haven't posted in a while-we've been O.U.T. Out in the world. Can I get an amen? It has been fun and scary and awesome, letting him experience the world. The world where germs live.  We've slowly started weaning off the Lysol. Sort of :). Instead of ... View the Post

Heart Talk· MVP Awards· Surprise Me

Room 211

The day after Tucker was born, we were sitting in our hospital room, my discharge only days away, and we were trying  to figure out where we were going to stay. With traffic, it would take us a little under an hour to get to the hospital each day. I already hated being even 1 floor away from Tucker. Our plan was to call local hotels near the hospital and plead our case, explain our situation and hope they would give us a discount on a rate. Then there was a knock at the door. The NICU social ... Divine Assignments

We had only, in the few days prior, begun to come out of the fog and shock of wrapping our heads around the realization that we had a 1lb baby in critical condition in ICU. And we understood very clearly that he was going to be there for a long, long time.  It was around day 10 of Tucker’s life and we were beginning to learn the NICU. What each of the 10 wires or tubes were, what the beeps meant on the monitor, what beeps were more urgent and significant than others, the schedule of the NICU. We ... View the Post

Heart Talk· Infertility and Miscarriage

Crying in the bathroom

There is a great writer, Shana Niequist (http://www.shaunaniequist.com/), who in her book, Bittersweet, writes a chapter about crying in the bathroom. There are two different reasons women are found crying in the bathroom. One woman is crying because there is a second line on the pregnancy test stick. The other is crying because there is not. I belonged in that second group. It is a lonely, highly sensitive road, the road of infertility. One you never, ever wanted to travel. And one for which ... View the Post

The best prayers

Until a few years ago I had two great grandmothers in my life. One lived into her mid 90's and the other lived to be 101. We grow the women sturdy in our family-they live long, strong lives. I am still blessed with two grandmothers who are independent and very much a part of our lives. They both got to see Tucker recently and I was reminded that no prayer is more special than those of a grandmother. Except maybe a great grandmother :) She... can play any tune, on any keyed instrument, ... View the Post

Leaps couches in a single bound

But for the lone  balloon still attached to Tucker's high chair, the birthday month and all the emotions that came with it is over. We're back to appointments, Final Four and Masters watching and the most exciting thing...the last month of isolation. This is kind of a technical post but I wanted to give a little update on T's recent appointments. So, sorry for the maybe dry, medical term filled post. It's about to get all Grey's Anatomy up in here. Here's a rundown of the appointment ... View the Post

Who Is This Rookie?

I don't trust people who don't like sweets. Monica Gellar is my spirit animal. I work. I write. I mom. I pray. I wife. I eat. I go. First kid was born at 24 weeks and spent 151 days in the NICU-well that didn't go as planned. He fought and we cheered. I started writing during that time. Second kid was born on a Thursday night-her birthmom's hand in mine both of us crying happy tears. You'll find posts here about cheesecake, adoption, kindergarten shenanigans, hard stuff, Dolly Parton and whatever else I want. And you'll like it young lady. Thanks for reading. I always love adding to the team. Especially if you bring team snacks.
