It was around 4:00 in the afternoon. I am most certain I had just asked Darrin to fetch me some Oreos or Famous Amos cookies or something sweet from the cafeteria. My theory was the more calories I could consume, the bigger this baby boy would be if he did, indeed, arrive early. And I was taking that theory seriously. We were probably watching Sports Center-what else do you watch at 4:00 in the afternoon from the limited hospital channels? Bedrest was starting to get to me. But I was doing ... View the Post
Ole Blue Eyes
January 9th. As of today, we've officially spent as much time at home as we spent in the hospital. Wow. The first 5 months were in slow motion. I remember thinking that first week in the NICU how LONG we had to go and how FAR Tucker needed to come. These last 5 months? Flown by. And in these 5 months, Tucker has grown himself a big. fat. personality. He is very curious. About things. About what we're doing. About my phone. And the computer. I love when we hear Tucker stirring in the morning. ... View the Post
Isolation Blues
We've got the blues. We're missing you. We're not even halfway through isolation and we've got the isolation blues. We're so happy and excited about Christmas with Tucker. We love this holiday even more with him here. I cry pretty much every night as I rock him to sleep listening to "O Holy Night". We know what a blessing we have been given and the holidays seem to underscore it even more for us. We're also, though, very aware of all the family and friends that we're missing this holiday ... Wi-Fi Available Here
It is the one constant in our life since the moment Tucker was born. A monitor. Every single moment of Tucker's almost 9 months has been captured in numbers. In vital signs. His heart rate. His respiratory rate. The oxygen saturation in his blood. The first 3 months of the NICU experience, the parents spend watching, staring, and willing the monitor to go a certain direction. I journal-ed about it one of those first weeks we were in the NICU. When we would visit Tucker, the majority of our time ... View the Post
One Day
We have some friends who throw a Halloween party every year. Sweets. Kids in adorable costumes. Chili. These people throw a good party-you don't want to miss it. And you don't want to miss the dessert table. 2 years ago, Darrin and I went to the party armed with some Nutter Butter cookies dipped in white chocolate to look like ghosts (clever yes?) and a cupcake carrier full of peanut butter chocolate cupcakes (no. that part really isn't integral to my story but I always want to know, in detail, ... Crying at the Stoplights
It happened. I said it wouldn't. I was ready for it. It would be no big deal. But there I was, laying out his clothes the night before. Making his bottles. Writing out his schedule. And color coding it. I felt it coming, tightening my heart a little, trying to sting my eyes. I ignored it and looked for my heels. And my pearls. And where did I put that pair of Spanx? I was going to need them. Then it was time. Monday morning. My first day back to work. First of all-you should know this about ... View the Post
